Income
Generating Activities
Even though much
of the rest of the world is “urbanizing”,
areas where we work are still very rural and most likely
remain so for generations to come. The\se areas,
therefore, are rife with poverty. This being the case,
their
need for any form of income generated by personal
contribution to the local workforce is necessary and
welcomed by all.
To this end, we support the purchasing, raising of goats,
chickens, rabbits and cows for consumption and income
generation. We encourage animal husbandry for both the
purposes of providing personal nourishment, but, whenever
possible, also to sell them as a business. The average
annual income in Malawi is a mere pittance of less than
$150.00 U.S., so any income generated through the animal
husbandry business is a tremendous asset to that.

Goats are
a good resource of much needed protein to stave off starvation,
plus the fact that they caneat virtually any sort of vegetation,
which is a plus in the Lower Shire region, since there is
little to no natural, nutritious vegetation to offer them.
Chickens are often considered "God's gift to mankind", since
they provide a high food-to meat ratio per bird and give protein
for the hungry.
